Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we get asked. If you have another question that isn't covered here then please contact us.

Pre Purchase

Our high quality standards mean Brintons carpets are suitable for Heavy Domestic use or higher. The exact suitability is shown against each item on the website so simply click on your chosen carpet to see all the specification details.

Which underlay should I use for my Brintons carpet?

Choice of underlay can make a noticeable difference to the performance of the carpet. To help we have some helpful tips available about underlay.

Are Brintons carpets mothproofed?

All of our wool-rich stock ranges are treated during the production process with a chemical that provides resistance to moth larvae damage. The treatment provides a well established level of protection following industry guidelines and best practice. All wool rich carpets have the potential to support moth larvae (as their food source) particularly in undisturbed, dark areas, such as under furniture. By occasionally accessing and vacuuming such areas the potential for damage is reduced further.

We therefore do not actively promote the application of treatments nor accept responsibility for any problems associated with their inappropriate use or poor application. In these circumstances the Brintons Promise will unfortunately become void. This does not affect your statutory rights.

What is a tog value?

A tog is a measurement of thermal resistance. Just as with a duvet the higher the tog rating, the more heat your carpet will retain, and the better it will be as an insulating material. If you wish to use an underfloor heating system then it is important to check the tog value of your carpet and underlay to make sure it works effectively.

Where is Brintons?

Brintons is headquartered in Kidderminster, which for centuries has been synonymous with woven carpet. Brintons is the largest purchaser of British Wool for carpets and the fleece from 1 in 9 sheep ends up in a Brintons carpet.

The production of Brintons Axminster and Wilton wool-rich carpets involves several processes to convert the fleece into a finished woven product.

As a global manufacturer of fine wool-rich carpets, Brintons has several production sites around the world. In Europe these are in Poland and Portugal, and to service Asia we have a site in India. Every one of our plants utilises the finest British Wool and adheres to the same exacting quality standards regardless of the location.

What are the tog values for Brintons carpets?

Typical Brintons 80% wool/20% nylon carpets have a tog value between 1.0 and 2.2. If you search by product, you will find each item will have its tog value listed against it. Alternatively the full tog value listing can be found here.

Can you guarantee a colour match?

Our carpets are produced from wool-rich yarn blend. All natural textiles have colour and blend variances between batches and an exact match to sampling is not guaranteed.

What is a 'Heather' or 'Berber' carpet?

Heather and berber effects are created by blending different coloured wool which can appear as dark flecks or linear forms in the carpet. This is considered an attractive and intentional feature.
